Susan Mare Borden—artist in residence at Artspace Buffalo—is the lead organizer and an art contributor from The Show of Diverse Color & Texture of Seven Women Artists. She has brought together the work of six additional professional artists to present a collection of diverse pieces. This group of women is passionate about creating art and have supported each other in pursuing their art careers for more than 10 years in WNY. Collectively, their experience is vast, and they have been inspired to present a variety of work which includes: Fibreart (poly-spun paper, monoprints, handmade paper) collage, mixed media, contemporary quilt art, weaving, digital photography and much more.
Borden’s most recent project is a breast cancer awareness and dialog exhibition—ART Purse Initiative 2019—and opened on September 6th at Artspace Buffalo. Participants were asked to use bras to create purses inspired by the strength and struggles of breast cancer survivors. All funds raised go towards the Hope Chest Dragon Boat Rowing Crew—a team of cancer survivors. A similar show last year Borden orchestrated and participated in—the ART Breast Initiative 2018—raise over $3,600 for the Breast Cancer Network of WNY. Four of the pieces from the 2018 show are included in the group’s exhibit this year at Fox Run.
